2QB Dynasty Top 200: May 2017 Edition

Below is an update to my Top-200 2QB dynasty rankings for the month of May. You’ll notice I’ve added a column called “Ovr Diff”. That column gives the difference in overall player ranking. A positive number means that the player’s rank has improved and a negative one means the rank has gotten worse. If the word “FIRST” is in that column, it means this is the first time that player has made the top-200. This is also the first time that the 2017 rookies have been added to the ranks, so there will be plenty of firsts.

The first thing that will stand out to you is the big moves up the board the quarterbacks made this month. While I’ve been fighting to keep my quarterbacks relatively low on the board, it was obvious once I was trying to put in the rookies that there needed to be a change. Putting things in the perspective of rookie players and rookie picks was a helpful exercise for me in formatting the rankings.

The biggest mover up the board at the quarterback position was Andy Dalton. The Bengals made a conscious effort to make big upgrades to their offensive weaponry in this draft, selecting John Ross, Joe Mixon, and Josh Malone at the skill positions. Dalton has been a top five quarterback in the past, and is due for some positive touchdown regression in 2017.

His 2016 touchdown rate of 3.2 percent was well below his career rate of 4.6 percent, and even further below is 5.2 percent rate from 2012 to 2015. To put that into perspective, Dalton threw 18 touchdown passes last year. That number would have been about 26 based on his career rate, and 29 based on his 2012 to 2015 rate. That’s a ton of fantasy points left on the table, and yet Dalton was still the QB13 last season in total points and QB19 in points per game.

Here are some other risers of note:

  • Danny Woodhead (+11)
  • Breshad Perriman (+10)
  • Robert Woods (+6)
  • Marcus Mariota (+5)
  • Jameis Winston (+5)
  • Carson Wentz (+5)

And here are some fallers:

  • Dion Lewis (-35)
  • Jerick McKinnon (-23)
  • Rishard Matthews (-17)
  • Tyler Boyd (-16)
  • Malcolm Mitchell (-16)

The falls were more significant than the rises because of the addition of rookies.

As always, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or in the comments section if you have a question or critique of my rankings!
